God speaks: Do you listen?
God, the Creator of all things, has always communicated with people. In the Garden of Eden, we read how God spoke directly to Adam (Genesis 2:16-18) and how Adam and Eve heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8).
The book of Genesis records how God directly to spoke to Noah and also later on to Abram, Isaac and Jacob. God commenced his relationship with Moses when he spoke directly to him through the miraculous event of the burning bush (Exodus 3). After the children of Israel were liberated from their bondage under the Egyptians they came to Mt. Sinai. Here, through Moses, the people heard the words of God and answered, all that the Lord hath spoken we will do (Genesis 19:8). As time progressed, God spoke to people through the judges of Israel and individual prophets (Hebrews 1:1).
When Jesus Christ came, he was the voice of his Father (John 12:44-50; Hebrews 1:2). Now, since Jesus Christ ascended to the Father and from the subsequent Day of Pentecost, God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit (John 16:7-14; Acts 2:1-4).
In God’s church, He has directed that the voice gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 14:26-29) should operate during meetings of the Church. The manifestations of tongues, interpretation of tongues, and prophecy have been set in the Church for the ‘edification, exhortation and comfort’ of its members (1 Corinthians 14:3). This is now, along with the recorded Word of God, how God is speaking through spirit-filled people.
God’s attention to the detail of these aspects of His communication with us is vital.
The question is; are you listening? And if you are, are you now prepared to do all that the Lord God has spoken?
